Systemic Psychotherapy -

The future of improved relationships
& mental health.

Systemic Psychotherapy enables your capacity to express and explore difficult thoughts and emotions safely.

Systemic Psychotherapy can help you to understand another person's experiences and views, appreciate each other’s needs, build on strengths, and work together to make useful changes in your relationships.

Collaborative therapy with you...

Systemic therapeutic support is available for individuals, couples, and families, and can be delivered either online or face-to-face in Peterborough. I have experience working across Social Care, CAMHS, the voluntary sector and with Community Interest Companies.

I also provide Systemic Psychotherapy within organisational settings, supporting individuals, groups and teams to strengthen relational dynamics, communication, and professional wellbeing. This support may be delivered through direct therapeutic intervention, consultation, reflective practice, training or workshops. I also provide psychotherapy support services in association with TMacLife

In addition, group therapy may be a meaningful option for those who prefer to engage in a shared therapeutic space. These groups can include anyone you identify as significant to your personal or professional life.

About Shakira

How I Work

Making the decision to have therapy can be challenging, particularly when you may not fully recognise its potential benefits.

In my practice, I bring an embodied approach to our sessions, paying close attention to the subtle nuances of interaction. I gently help clients practice listening to the body, to explore thoughts and actions - recognising that our physical sensations and our responses hold vital information about our lived experiences, the meaning and connections we make and our relationships.

Clients can expect a free 15min consultation via phone or online.  This helps me to have an understanding of the therapeutic aims and it’s an opportunity for you to find out if I am the right fit for you. Each session lasts 50min-1hr and can take place face-to-face (in Peterborough) or remotely (online link would be sent). I don't have specific expectations about session frequency or pacing. You may decide to see me weekly, fortnightly or monthly, depending on your unique needs and availability.

There are no set number of sessions and there is no obligation to continue therapy if your circumstances change and you do not wish to continue.

The RAFT training programme comprises of three core training sessions.  This is supplemented by additional workshops aimed at reinforcing practical application. For organisational training and EMDR please make contact for further details.

EMDR Therapy: Processing Trauma With Less Words

Processing the physical and emotional impact of trauma without needing to find the words.

Talking about traumatic events can be deeply challenging. Reliving the painful details through words often feels overwhelming, and sometimes, language alone cannot fully capture how trauma lives in our bodies.

Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) is an internationally recognised, evidence-based psychotherapy that offers a different path. Rather than relying on detailed talking, EMDR focuses on how your brain and body store distressing events, helping you safely process past pain.

Why EMDR?

  • Less Talking, a different kind of processing: You do not need to describe all the specific details of the trauma out loud to find relief.
  • Attends to the Body: It addresses the physical impact of trauma, helping calm the bodily stress responses that keep you on edge.
  • Reduces Distress:  It uses bilateral stimulation techniques, such as guided eye movements, tapping  to help your brain reprocess stuck memories and lower their emotional and physical intensity.

If you would like to explore whether EMDR might be a helpful step forward for your current situation, please get in touch so we can discuss how to work together safely and collaboratively.
